Matthew and Martin McDonald, twins, are some of
the nicest 11 year old boys you’ll ever meet. They are polite,
engaging, and fun to be around. You would never know that over the past
18 months, they left their home in NY to move to NC with only their
mother and whatever what fit in the car. During that same time, Matthew
had major surgery that kept his mother out of work for over 2 months.
Matthew has Cerebral Palsy and has limited movement in his legs. Like
so many other children the volunteers of April’s Angels have met,
Matthew’s dreams are not limited by his physical abilities. Matthew
dreams of being a professional football coach one day, and maybe, he’ll
let his brother help with the coaching too! A Leadership Team from the
Raleigh Chamber of Commerce helped turn the twins room into a football
haven. Before the makeover, the twins had no furniture save the beds
they were sleeping on. Now, the twins have a bunk “loft” complete with
real stadium chairs that allow them to watch TV, or play some of their
favorite video games. They have a large dresser, lockers for their
sports “stuff” and even a whiteboard to create all of the plays that
Matthew hopes to one day use in his coaching career. Matthew, Martin,
and their mother and friends were all overwhelmed at the change, and
never dreamed their room could be so “cool.” |
