 | Noah Johnson is a 9 year old boy with Arnold Chiaris’ disease. Noah’s
condition has no cure, and will worsen rapidly shortening his brief
life dramatically. He has already had 59 surgeries in his short life,
but on days when he feels good, his sparkling personality and slightly
wicked wit come shining through! Noah has a passion for the Carolina
Hurricanes, and with a team of volunteers from the Raleigh Chamber of
Commerce Leadership Team, April’s Angels brought that passion to life! A
customized bed was created for Noah that included a headboard made
from a giant hockey puck, and a footboard that was made to look like a
hockey net. The net housed a flat screen TV/computer monitor equipped
with wireless mouse and keyboard, so Noah could watch all of the games
and keep up on the players right from his bed. In addition, a slide was
added to Noah’s bed that allowed him to have part of the playground
experience he missed so much right in his own room. It also allowed him
some independence to get out of bed in the mornings by himself. His
room was surrounded in Hurricanes paraphernalia, and his toys, clothes
and medical equipment were housed in newly created lockers, completing
the hockey rink look. Noah was speechless when he saw his new room for
the first time, but when his 3 brothers tried to claim a stake, Noah
gave them each a push and uttered, “My Room!” Words not easily spoken
from a boy who loves his new oasis! |
