 | Like many boys his age, Jordan Maddox dreams of playing basketball.
However, Jordan is not like other 8 year old boys. He has a “million
dollar smile” as his mother puts it, and a personality so big and warm,
you’d swear he was a TV celebrity! He was also born with Spina Bifida,
and is paralyzed from the waist down. These circumstances don’t deter
Jordan’s dreams at all, and he will tell you flat out that he can beat
his older, fully mobile brothers in basketball. That’s why April’s
Angels along with a group from the Edenton Street Methodist Church in
downtown Raleigh wanted to create a fantasy basketball room for Jordan.
His room included a custom made headboard that looks like a “Spalding
basketball” but in place of the Spalding name is Jordan’s name. He
also now has a wall of fame with trophies and plaques naming him as the
MVP, player of the year, and best offensive player to keep his dream of
being a great basketball player alive. When Jordan saw his new room,
he kept asking his mother if it was ok for him to cry because he was so
happy. The best testament to the impact that the new room has had on
Jordan though is that for the fist time in his life, Jordan now gets
him self dressed in the morning, puts away his Pajamas, and does the
reverse at night, all unassisted and unprompted. “The new room has
given him so much pride, and helped him to be more independent” his
mother told us. That’s a good endorsement for a job well done! |
