Dalton Wallace is a 9 year old boy with Fredreich’s Ataxia, a chronic
medical disorder that causes heart, lung and brain issues for Dalton.
Along with that, Dalton is beginning to loose muscle control that he
will never regain which is causing Dalton to lose his ability to walk.
When you meet Dalton though, his smile will have you hooked in an
instant! Dalton was fortunate enough to spend a day at Cherry Point
being an honorary Marine. Since that day, Dalton has been obsessed with
the Marines. With that in mind, April’s Angels wanted to make that
obsession come to life for Dalton. With a team of volunteers, April’s
Angels first replaced the old carpet in Dalton’s room with wood floors
to make it easier for Dalton to maneuver his wheel chair. Next, a 3-D
mural was created that had tanks, hummers and even a jet with a photo
of Dalton in the cockpit all coming out of the wall making his dream
very real. His bed was canopied with camouflage netting donated by the
Marines, and flight suits, fatigues and even military lockers were
created and personalized for “Captain Wallace.” To top off the whole
surprise, the Marine from Cherry Point who escorted Dalton around on
his special day, and had been deployed abroad for over a year, came to
walk Dalton through the door to his new room. The smile on his face,
and the tears of joy in his parents’ eyes helped the volunteers know
they had made Dalton’s dream come alive! |
