April’s Angels was established in August of 2004. The idea for April's Angels stemmed from the desire to give back to the community. We are very fortunate here in Central North Carolina to be surrounded by outstanding medical centers, but with that, comes more awareness of the struggles of so many who deal with life altering illnesses. Combining this awareness with the desire for philanthropy, the idea for April's Angels was born. We wanted to help families with chronically ill children in a way that would have a lasting impact on their home life. When we began to speak of the idea to others, the response to help was overwhelming, and April's Angels was born.
The mission of April's Angels is to bring new life into the homes of families with children whose activities outside the home are limited due to their illnesses. April's Angels is run by a team of volunteers, and all work and services are performed by volunteers as well.
How do we select our families?
A child can be nominated by a parent or guardian, or by a medical professional treating the child. After we receive a nomination, April's Angels then contacts the parent or guardian to determine interest in having their child considered for a fantasy bedroom. Once interest is confirmed, the family will receive an application package, and when returned to April's Angels, the selection process begins.
After a child and family are selected, members of our staff will work with the children to find out what excites them, and how we can help their dreams and imagination grow. We'll take these ideas and provide new furniture, bedding, murals and other items that will turn these rooms into a fantasy for that child!
Our goal is to provide 8 fantasy bedrooms in 2007, and to grow in years after that. April's Angels relies solely on donations from individuals and corporations, and appreciates any financial support you can provide. Your support will bring joy to many deserving families.
